- Students who are candidates for Ph.D. degrees and also have finished all the doctoral requirements except the dissertation by September 1, 2019, are eligible to apply for American Bar Foundation(ABF) Doctoral Fellowships Program, 2019-20.
- Proposed or Doctoral research must belong to the general area of sociolegal studies or include social scientific approaches to the legal processes, legal institutions, or law.
- Significant issues in the field of Law & Inequality must be addressed in the research by the applicant.
- Doctoral or proposed research for American Bar Foundation(ABF) Doctoral Fellowships Program, 2019-20 must show promise of a major contribution to a social scientific understanding of law and inequality.
- Candidates from underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply.
