Hispanic scholarship is a great initiative to support the students with Hispanic background by offering financial aid to them. If the students are at least one quarter Hispanic, they are eligible to apply for the Hispanic scholarship and achieve all the benefits!
Depending on the fiscal needs of students, students are awarded with awards ranging from $500-$5,000. Since 1975, Hispanic American have been provided with almost $588 million in Hispanic scholarship funding.
More than 150 scholarships are offered to students with various interest and abilities. The amount of the awards can be used for tuition, books, fees, room and board, school supplies, and even transportation to and from college.
History of The Hispanic Scholarship Funds
Hispanic scholarship funds started in 1975, and since then the Hispanic scholarship fund has provided scholarships and services to as many exceptional Hispanic students as possible. The Hispanic scholarship empowers Latino families and support that is needed for higher education. Hispanic scholarship fund has awarded over $588 million in scholarships. Not only this but the Hispanic scholarship fund also has provided support services and programs for students as well as parents.
The mission of Hispanic scholarship fund is to provide support to as many Hispanic students as possible so they are encouraged to get higher education without having to worry about the resources.
The Hispanic students are not just exceptional in studies but they make an educated and influential community of young leaders who continuously thrive for a better American society.
Eligibility Criteria for Hispanic Scholarship Fund:
Those students who are willing to apply for Hispanic scholarship fund should see the following eligibility criteria to know if they can apply or not
- Applicant must be of Hispanic heritage
- For high school students, Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required
- For undergraduate and graduate students, Minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required
- Applicant must have Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the US, for the 2021-2022 academic year
- Applicant should be US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA) to be eligible
- Applicant is required to complete FAFSA or state based financial aid application (if applicable)
Hispanic Scholarship Value:
The awards students receive from the Hispanic scholarship are merit based. The amount of these awards range from $500 to $5,000. The amount of the Hispanic scholarship depends on the needs of the wining candidates.

Other than the scholarship itself, the winners of the Hispanic scholarship fund have access to different other opportunities like
- The winners have access to the scholar conferences like for STEM students, finance students, business students and other categories

- Volunteer opportunities along with extracurricular activities as showcased by the newsletter of Hispanic scholarship fund
- To supplement standard college courses, online courses are available
- A career center is available for the Hispanic scholarship winners that helps college students and graduates during their job and internship searches
- Students are set up with career professionals through a mentor match program so they can learn more
- Hispanic scholarship winners are more likely to secure another award in the future. Preferred applicant status is given to the winners next year
Documents Required for Applying in The Hispanic Scholarship Fund:
Applicants are required to have the following documents to apply for the Hispanic scholarship funds
- A completed FAFSA is required
- An essay. This essay would describe your future goals and plans. It should include your interests, values, strengths and characteristics
- A copy of Student Aid Report (SAR) of the applicant. Applicants will get this once they complete their FAFSA
- Enrollment verification is required by the school which the applicant would be attending. These can be received from the school’s admission office. These can be submitted in the summer after applicants receive their award notification in the summer
- Transcripts of high school or college. Contact registrar’s office to obtain these as some schools store these and will refer the students to another office. Applicants may be able to request a copy on the school’s website.
- At least one letter of recommendation is required to apply. This can be taken from an instructor, advisor or other academic influence
- Financial aid award letter from the college/university applicant will be attending is required. This would be used to determine the amount of award the winner would be given. This can be obtained from the financial aid office.
- A valid Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is required if you are a student with DACA status. Learn more about this on the U.S. Citizen and Immigration Services website
Application Deadline for The Hispanic Scholarship Fund:
The applications for the Hispanic scholarship fund opens on 1st January and ends on 15 February every year . Finalist phase is from March to April and selection would be in May every year.
